Is your company finacially screwed!?

The Big Four Financial Ratio Types YOU NEED TO KNOW as a Business Owner.

Becoming an entrepreneur may be one of the hardest journeys you can make in your life. When you make the decision to enter the business world as an entrepreneur, you quickly come to understand that with the territory. You have a responsibility to learn.

Of those things you learn are Financial Ratios. They are imperative in measuring how effective you were historically, are presently doing, and could potentially do. And of the many different ratios that are used, the most valuable ones for entrepreneurs and managers are Profit, Liquidity, Working Capital, and Leverage Ratios.

- Profit Ratios -

When in business for yourself, the first thing you must consider is the profitability of your business. Without the lifeblood of profit, your business will not grow and will always be at high risk of kicking the bucket.

And with Profit Ratios, you can avoid such pitfalls by knowing how well competitors are doing in your industry or gauge how well you’re doing. Because if the industry or you have low profit ratios, it may not be a good business to get into or it might be high time to sell your business and reinvest.

Now profit ratios use a combination of gross profits, net income, net sales, total assets, and owner’s equity. You can quickly understand your business position at that moment in time. To make it even easier use an online financial calculator.

A few samples:

Picture
Net profitability:
- Measures how much money is left after others take a bite (Creditors, Vendors, etc.)
- Weak Net Profit indicates something is eating up your bottom line

Picture
Return on investment:
-  Shows effectiveness of utilizing equity invested into the company
-  Most important for investors who are looking to lend you money as they want a great return

- Liquidity Ratios -
As an entrepreneur, profit comes first, but liquidity comes second because no matter how much you have in assets. It won’t keep the creditors from knocking on your door if you don’t have the money they want right now.

Liquidity Ratios measure just that. Showing your ability to pay your current obligations. Knowing your liquidity allows you to adjust your daily operations to bring in enough money to avoid problems before they start.

With liquidity ratios, the most important parts on the balance sheet are liabilities to be combined with Current Assets and Liquid Assets. To make it even easier use an online financial calculator.

A few samples:

Picture
Current ratio:
-  Represents your ability to pay your debts up to a year
- The general rule of thumb is that it should be at least 2:1; two dollars for every one you owe

Picture
Quick ratio (or "acid test"):
-        Represents your ability to pay now
-       The general rule of thumb is that it should be at least 1:1; always have enough money on you to keep the loan sharks at bay

- Working Capital Ratios -

Working Capital is essentially what you’re currently using to make money. This includes credit, inventory, and assets. As an entrepreneur, you must constantly assess your ability to utilize working capital as it is the bread and butter of your daily activity. Without these ratios you will have no idea if something needs optimized or shut down.

These ratios deal mostly with Sales, Working Capital, Inventory (Key), and Assets. To make it even easier use an online financial calculator.

A few samples:

Picture
Cash turnover:
- reflects your ability to finance your activities and its efficiency
- in general you need to five more coming in sales than you have in working capital as it has many cash leaks that may sink the ship

Picture
Inventory to assets ratio:
- Shows how tied up your assets are in your inventory
- Because if you need new inventory, but you can’t buy it until you sell your old inventory, then you have a mighty fine problem

- Leverage Ratios -

Leveraging is using other people’s money to finance what you’re doing. With leveraging you experience higher returns by having capital you normally wouldn’t’ have.  But with more leverage, the higher the risk of bankruptcy if your working capital isn’t working for you, and your bills come due. Knowing your leverage is great because you know if you can to take on more debt without compromising yourself.

Leverage Ratios deal mostly with how much debt you have compared to other things like Owner’s Equity, Assets, and Expenses. To make it even easier use an online financial calculator.

Picture
Debt ratio:
- shows you the portion of your assets that you have through borrowing
- Never owe more than you own. On this situation you are technically bankrupt and one simple call from a creditor will bring you to your knees

Picture
Interest coverage:
- alerts you on how comfortably you can handle interest payments
- can’t handle it = can’t take on more debt, can’t grow, can’t become more profitable; can handle it = can take on more debt, can grow, can become more profitable. Everyone’s happy.

- Conclusion -

But before you start using these ratios, you have to accept these simple truths…

-       What determines good and bad ratios for you are based on your industry, the maturity of your business, and the business cycle

-       For ratios to be useful, you have to keep in mind that they are time sensitive and only present a certain block in time for your company.

-       True benefits of Financial Ratios can only fully realized when tracked over time and compared to competition and similar industries

-       And ratios must also be taken with a grain of salt for the short term can quickly turn forecasts

Wish you had a quick list of all the ways to market yourself that you didn't know you needed?

Then the journey that is your life has crossed our paths.

Which is a good thing.

Now lets begin…

Web Design and Development.
Build your online foundation with an easily navigable and well maintained website. Professionally designed to more than appeal to your ideal customer.

Allowing you to build a community of people that can’t go without your products and services.

Mobile Advertising –

Which includes a developed Mobile Website, applications, and the advertising avenues that go with it.

And with your NEW Website up and running, generate traffic by developing ads and content for…

Website Advertising.

·         Display/Banner/Frame Ads –

See the texts that appear on the top, right, and sometimes the left of the content you’re trying to read?

Then you know what Display, Banner, and Frame Ads are. And you know they use text, logos, animations, videos, photographs, or other graphics to persuade your prospects to traffic your site. Using Big Data Targeting to get your Message to those most likely to heed it.

·        Active Website Ads

Such as…

Pop-Ups/Unders that appear in a separate window above and below the window a prospect opens.

Floating ads that appear superimposed over the content that a prospect wants to see.

Expanding ads that pop up when a certain action takes place such as staying on a website for a certain time, hovering over a word or image, etc.

And…

Interstitial ads that ask for an email for people to access premium content.

And with your intense use of Active Ads, you must harness the power of…

Search Engine Advertising.

·       Search Engine Marketing (SEM) –

Where everyone goes to find what they need on the internet. For entertainment, research, or to make a purchase, everyone goes through one search engine or another.

And you need to be at the top.

At the top with content, at the top with advertising, at the top with value.

All through…

·       Search Engine Optimization (SEO) –

… you can put yourself there by using the most up-to-date techniques so not only will search engines find you, but  rocket you to the top.

But if you can’t wait to get to the top organically, you can pay your way there and be first to meet that prospect ready to buy with…

·       Sponsored searches –

Or Pay-Per-Click advertising, where you only pay when an interested prospect likes what they see. Placed at the top of Google, Bing, or other search engine.

Now that you have your very own website with consistent traffic coming in. It is high time to take those who love your products and services. And build a good ol’ community for them to talk about and interact with your company.

And to do that you need…

Social Media Marketing.

Getting it right will garner unprecedented publicity and establish your online presence.

Because a company is only as successful as the community of people who support it, starting with your customer.

Once your business is booming, your online presence growing, and your Mailing List is developing. You have only one choice…

To GET EVEN BIGGER USING...

Email Advertising.

Getting your customer base who have purchased and those interested in purchasing from you updates on new products, services, and deals they just can’t miss.

Or my personal favorite, giving them Info-products that tell customers new ways to use your products, services, and other generally useful information they need about your business, industry, or day-to-day.

And just when you thought you had your hands in every advertising avenue possible.

You can put your advertising into overdrive with…

Affiliate Marketing.

Where you get other people to find ‘you’ business and pay them a percentage of the sales they generate.

Giving you the ability to pay only for performance as they pay for themselves.

And just when you thought that was enough…

Marketing Today

The world of marketing has been turned on its ear.

Because consumers now have every option available to avoid traditional marketing.

Having been bombarded with advertising for years, most consumers now “surf”. Promptly ignoring magazine articles, online banners, and the billboards littering the streets.

They record their favorite shows on DVRs, fast forwarding through commercials or avoiding television altogether by streaming it directly online.

Even, going as far as downloading online applications like Ad Block Plus to thwart any attempts by marketers to reach their eyes.

Thus consumers know what they want and how they want it.

Making Content. King.

Content is KING!

Fast growing, content marketing is becoming the leading way for marketers to reach their audience.

By instead of using traditional ways of propping ads next to content people want and forcing them to look at or sit through them for the ultimate prize.

You intertwine your marketing into the content consumers want.

Enshrining yourself as an industry expert and producer of valuable content.

Making them come back again and again.

Why video content will make you KING!

And there is no better way today to present your valuable content and boost your bottom line than through Online Video Marketing.

Easily setting yourself apart from the crowd.

First off, video brings a “wow” factor to online marketing. Adding punch that catches the eye and stimulates viewers in a way that text cannot. Instilling your marketing message and making your company memorable.

Second, in fact, video marketing is more affordable than it has ever been with improving technology. Using video to portray your company in the light you want. Making it so easy now to put a face to your brand. A face that people get to know. That they will trust and respect.

Third of all, video marketing allows you to convey complex information, clearly, and in a way that people easily understand. Because everyone loves to see a demonstration of something being done than it being described in words. As no one likes an instruction manual without pictures.

And finally, videos are much more likely to go viral. If you produce buzz-worthy content, you can easily become the internet’s next big sensation. With viral sharing comes more eyes on your marketing message and your business as whole. Even riding the wave to nationwide exposure and maximum profit.

Now What?

Understanding what to do is only half the battle, now execution is key.

All ABOARD the Search "Engine": SEO Explained

7/3/2014

Picture
Sitting alone at my computer, typing in keywords to Google, I don’t understand why my website is not showing up on the results page!

So frustrated, I think: “Why are more people not visiting my site?”

I offer the best services in my field but no one even knows I exist!

I spent my life building this business and I have given it everything I have. Even hiring a respected graphics company to design and publish my site, but I can’t get anyone to see it.

What am I doing wrong?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can you relate to this situation?

Are you stressing out, trying to get more traffic to your site?

STOP!

There is a simple solution!

SEO.

But “what is SEO?”

SEO is Search Engine Optimization.

Because it is all about being at the top when people search for answers.

Optimization puts you there and gets potential customers to see your company first when they type in their need or problem to Google, Bing, or other favorite search engine.

You see, search engines scan your sites for keywords, phrases, and links that directly deal with what people are actually looking for. And these searches are based on complicated algorithms that take into account 3 major things… Social Media, Backlinks, and Keywords in the Title.

Therefore, to boost your organic ranking, you need to have an active social media presence with a community that loves to share your posts. Backlinks from Powerful SEO Peers who endorse you and lend you the power of their reputation. And just the right keywords that your customer wants to see.

But if you don’t have the motivation to get the top organically. You can pay your way there.

 With…

Pay-Per-Click or “PPC”.  A paid advertising program that places your ad at the top of search results for a fee, but only when somebody clicks on it.

Now before you get started you got to know, there are two types of PPC:

One, search engine advertising:

  • This is where advertisers bid on keywords in order to have their ads appear in the search engine results. Therefore you have to be careful in your budget as the more popular or competitive your keywords are, the more you have to pay per click.
Two, partner network advertising:

  • This is placing ads (either text, display, or banner ads) on a large network of partner sites. Allowing you to place ads on websites that your customer base would visit!
Now rest easy and waste not another minute worrying about this easily fixable problem.

All you need now is a few small tweaks to understand how SEO works and how to use it to effectively to position your business.

Saving time AND money….not to mention your sanity!

I hate websites...

6/27/2014

Picture
Because there are TWO types of graphics experts!

And I don't know which one I need...

A Graphic Designer or a Programmer?

One knows how to fill a canvas with a palette of colors.

The other how to speak the foreign language of Code.

Thing 1

The first person I need is a WEB DESIGNER.

Someone adept at using and manipulating graphic design software to create custom looks for the web. Able to make eye-catching and pleasing additions to a website that convinces prospects to look, stay, and come back.

Using intuition and imagination, with a graphic design and arts background. Who designs everything from color, style, and format but then gives it to a developer who marries it to the code.

Or avoid hiring a developer by having someone who can work off of a platform like Wordpress, Typepad, etc. Who knows how to add specialized coding to a web platform to help your site look unique and interesting. Making posting, editing, and moving things around a cinch as the platform does most the work for you.

But overall, when looking for your own designer, look for somone who has a strong understanding of color, typography, spacial relationships, and user experience that boosts traffic, click-throughs, and responses. With measurable results of how their effective their design is to the bottom line.

_____________________________________________________________________
Thing 2

BUT if you are looking for something a little more advanced or interactive for your customers, there is another option!

A Web Developer.

A web developer builds your website from scratch giving you the freedom to customize and get your site to do exactly what you want. Most having backgrounds in computer science or programming.

They are well versed in complex computer languages specific to the web. Think: Javascript, advanced HTML knowledge, JQUERY, and much more. And can incorporate flash animation, advanced video integration, and other nifty features.

Although most don’t focus on making your site visually appealing, you get a website with technically sound and clean code.

Mutant Thing: Best of both worlds.

More often than not, you don’t need the headache of hiring both a web designer and a web developer. Forgoing the many issues of trying to get a creative to work effectively with a techie.

Such as:
  • Jargon.
  • People who can’t express what they want to communicate.
  • Closed to ideas. Designers and developers need to work together and take suggestions from each other.
Instead, you can hire one who does both. A graphics expert who possesses the skills of a Web Designer and Web Developer.

Thus, if you want a website with collaboration that can take your website to new heights, then a designer and developer team maybe in order. As long as they get along and work harmoniously.

Otherwise, find a dual wielding designer /developer. But beware he may lack in one or the other, or be unable to transform your website without someone to toss ideas off of.

What does the Mark On a Cow's Butt have to do with your business?

BRANDING OF COURSE!!!
Picture

“Frank, sales are down since we opened here,” Louis began. “We’re unknown. How can I make an impression and draw in new customers?”

“You need to build an image, Louis,” Frank answered.

“Build an image?” Louis questioned, “How do I build my company’s image?”

“Do you remember how ranchers labeled livestock so they were easy to identify when they grazed the open range?

How they would make a simple image on an iron, heat it, and imprint each animal’s hind-quarters with it?”

“Yes Frank, I remember.”

“Then you know you need a Brand.”

----
And here’s how we built ours:

Collected Information: We collected information on the people and environment that allowed our company to thrive. We wanted to see what brand we already had.

This included who our ideal customers are, how to find them, and what they like about us. Knowing these things made it easy to find our strengths and weaknesses. Allowing us to pick the best brand for us.

Articulated: Taking that into account, we got together and brainstormed the personality of our company, articulating the voice of our business, and the story we wanted to tell; of our core values, mission, and ultimate vision.

With each.

Came backstory and even drama we could turn into a something more. An identity.

Identified: Once we found the fundamental pieces of what made our company. We combined them to make our identity – an identity we could rally around and build our company culture from. A company we were proud to be a part of. And easy to differentiate from everyone else.

Applied: Once we had all of these ideas down on paper – we took the next logical step - applying it to all our marketing. Designing it for every type of media.

In our video content and commercials.

In our writings perfecting the voice through our text advertising alongside professional photos that emphasize what we stand for.

And in audio, with our podcast that we broadcast weekly.

Putting it in everywhere our customers and prospective customers are.

Positioned:  We positioned ourselves with the information we collected, our new brand, and our marketing campaigns. And we reached those who already knew us, those who wanted to know us, and those who should know us. Meeting them at tradeshows, on television, the internet, and even on their doorstep.

With those five things, we were able to build our brand. Increase our sales, bigger market shares, and a bigger bottom line. Even allowing us to expand into multiple other markets.

And you too could have your very own brand working for you.

Just remember…

·         Collect information on the people and environment that makes you thrive or shrivel.

·         Articulate it in the fundamentals of your Company.

·         Identify your brand with those fundamentals.

·         Apply it to your marketing and build campaigns to rock it.

·         Position your brand in the light and the people you want to see it.

And you will have the most Powerful Marketing Campaigns imaginable.
----

“Wow.”

“The most Powerful, Frank?”

“The most Powerful, Louis.”

FOUR.

Howdy,

This is my fourth iteration of “Techniques of the Week” which is an ode to simple writing and marketing techniques that can be used immediately with measurable results in the Before,

During, and After of your sales process.

Interested in past and future iterations? Then stay up-to-date by subscribing.

With that said, let’s be off…

The Before: Guard-Lowering Pictures

Have you found yourself clicking on an advertisement just because of the cute cat picture or the really weird looking thing that you have to tilt your head to figure out?

We all have.

And you can utilize it yourself. Right now. This second. To lower the guard of your prospects to catch their attention and throw them a pitch.

Just pick a picture that…

  • Has nothing to do with what you’re selling, and is used as a segue to your sales pitch.
Picture
Don't get left behind. Stay up-to-date!
  • Has something to do with what your selling, but is very interesting looking.
Picture
Knick-knacks! Have them take up space in your garage today!
  • Directly relates to what you’re selling, but is friggin’ awesome.
Picture
Cow Takes Selfie. P.S. I sell cows.
Just remember to make it something that piques someone’s curiosity.

SO CUTE, WEIRD, or FUNNY is the way to go.

* Guard-Lowering Pictures – have a picture so cute, so awesome, so absolutely amazing your prospect has to click it, lowering their guard.

The During: The Feelings

Best way to sell?

Hit a nerve.

Tap into a person’s emotions through stories, opinions, and trigger words.

Riling up the emotions of your prospects, calling them to action, and getting them to make a decision.

All in one emotionally charged piece of copy, video, or audio.

Here is what to aim for…

·  People want THINGS THEY DON'T HAVE and MORE OF WHAT THEY DO.

Like…

o   Money — saving it, spending it, and giving it to others

o   Time — for themselves, family, and interests

o   Praise —for being intelligent, knowledgeable, attractive, and other superior qualities

o   Self-confidence — to see themselves as worthy, and physically or mentally superior

o   Comfort —for indulgence, convenience, and luxury

o   Fun — to have no worries and feel like a kid again

o   Pride of accomplishment — excelling, triumphing, and beating the competition

o   Leisure — to travel, have hobbies, rest and play, and for self-development

o   Prestige — being important, a member of a select group, and having power

o   Enjoyment — food, drink, and entertainment

Like…

Therefore...

Hit one.

Hit two.

Hit a combination and you will definitely make the sale.

* The Feelings – go for the emotions, rip and tear them up, and sell them something in their emotional fervor

The After: Free Audit/Info Audit

Have a great product?

But need to get in front of your audience to make the sale?

Then here is a technique for you.

·         The Free Audit.

·         And it’s Cousin, The Info Audit.

Now how do they work…

The free audit is a free service you provide where you come in and audit something of your customer that directly relates to your business products or services.

When you audit, you take notes of the customer’s environment and situation.

Once complete you give them a report of problems you saw, potential problems they can have, and recommendations on how to fix them. And perhaps put a pitch in their about how your specific products and services can help. Maybe.

And a perfect way to advertise it is to have a Pre-appointment package (by mail, email, or phone), that notifies beforehand of a meeting. Then you show-up, audit them, and close deal. And for the kicker leave them a gift basket.

The other is the Info Audit.

Where you come in.

Interview customers, reps, and others.

Build a report with the problems and the potential problems you see.

Be an Expert for them and give them the best solutions.

And Create Value.

* The Audit – come in, find the problems, give the solutions, and sell your product.

3 simple techniques

You can use to catch the eye of your prospects.

Lowering their guard.

Touching their emotions.

And finding places to create value.

Did you have success with these techniques? Or do you have your own techniques you would like to share?

A Dilemma

It used to be so simple to sell our products …

Make them available in stores and salesmen’s sample cases …

Now people just want to be impressed … to be sold on the product before they buy it.

What can I do to sell these products?

How can I turn all of those flat pages of copy into beautiful, marketing media?

As I turn to face the window, I wonder … what will attract my buyers to buy our product? How can I entice them to look beyond the surface … to see the benefits that it can bring to their existence … to show them why our products are better than the others?

An Idea

Images … photos … they will show the details of our widgets. That will give customers something more than black words on stark, white pages.

I can find a photographer to take pictures of our widgets.

As I talked with the photographer, I learned there is more to picture taking than I thought … I never knew so much detail went into it. Let’s see … how did he explain those elements?

A Photographer

Sir, he said, photographs used for marketing are as important as family portraits. Many things must be right to showcase your products well. To display their benefits we use the “eye of the camera as the eyes of the buyers.”

First we look at the lighting. If the light is not right the product may hide in the shadows or be masked by glare, concealing their benefits. When lighting is perfect all the hidden aspects will be visible.

Another consideration is timing. Photos taken at the perfect moment where everything is right. The lighting, the motions, and setting all roll into one beautiful shot   … natural and artificial will match.

Next we will judge composition. Your photos must be balanced, focused and well framed. Linear elements should be framed to draw the eyes through the image into the focal point.

Color is also important. It gives your photos a sense of mood, place, and season. It can also move the eyes around the photo’s composition, creating a sense of depth and space.

The final aspect is editing. Editing can perfect what has escaped in previous elements. It can bring your subject closer and give balance where it is lacking. You can straighten your shot, adjust contrast and correct color. You can also resize and sharpen your images. When complete your photographs will be the best images of your products they can be.

Sir, when I am finished taking photographs of your products, using the elements discussed, they will give your marketing the boost it deserves. They will drive customers to your front door.

An Epiphany...

You know …

I think that photographer is right!

Professional photographs will make all of these stark, white pages pop. They will create a new surge of customer interest in our products.

I have been a professional writer for the last five years. Never thinking to become one until after receiving my very first writing project from my friend.
I didn't even want to do it because I didn't have the time. But as the story goes, he made me an offer I couldn't refuse. And on that day I fell into a job I knew would become my career.
